Celebrating Clinical Trials Day 2025 with a focus on EORTC’s Young and Early Career Investigators

EORTC Celebrating Clinical Trials Day 2025 - focus on EORTC’s Young and Early Career Investigators

Each year on 20 May, the global research community comes together to celebrate Clinical Trials Day. This time, we were proud to shine a spotlight on our Young and Early Career Investigators (Y-ECIs) a dynamic and growing community of early career professionals committed to advancing cancer research across Europe and beyond.

The EORTC Y-ECI community, currently chaired by Dr Petr Szturz and, since June 2024, soon to be succeeded by Dr Jens Lehmann, brings together some of the brightest emerging minds in oncology. These young clinicians, scientists and investigators are fully integrated into the wider EORTC network and supported by experienced mentors. They benefit from tailored training, opportunities to contribute to leading research, and an environment that encourages collaboration and leadership development. From contributing to protocol development and data analysis to presenting their work on international stages, Y-ECI members are already making a meaningful impact on the future of cancer clinical trials.

As of 2024, 1,133 EORTC members are registered as Young and Early Career Investigators, reflecting the significance of this community within the organisation.

“Clinical Trials Day is not just about acknowledging the trials of the past, it is also about recognising those who, today, are shaping the future of cancer care,” says Dr Denis Lacombe, EORTC CEO. “Our young members are already designing more effective trials, asking bold questions, and learning what it takes to turn research into real-world impact.”
